Chapter 30

It was about 8 PM when Jordan and Stacey returned home. Both Jordan’s parents were sitting in the living room watching a movie, snuggled up on the couch together. Jordan stood silently in the doorway watching them. Tears slipped down her cheeks as doubts raged within her. What if Teresa couldn’t stop the flight? What if they couldn’t stop her mother’s accident? Where would she be this time tomorrow? Anger rose in her as she thought about the  mirror and why Bethany would have given her such a thing. “I’m just a kid,” she whispered to no one in particular. But Stacey had heard and she put her arms around Jordan and led her upstairs.
“We have to be ready to go early tomorrow,” Stacey told Jordan once they were safely in her room. They had thrown a sheet back over the mirror, fearing its activation and new impending disasters.
Stacey set Jordan’s alarm and they sat on the edge of her bed, both exhausted but neither sleepy. Jumping up, Jordan ran to her door. She threw it open and Stacey heard her go down the stairs. Seconds later Jordan returned holding a set of keys in her hand.
“My mom and dad’s car keys,” Jordan replied, and Stacey gave her a shaky grin.
“Yeah! Why didn’t I think of that! If we make them late, then the time table will be off, right?”
     “I hope so,” Jordan replied.
They played around online and paced the room until they finally heard Jordan’s parents retire for the night. Both stretched out on Jordan’s bed and slept fitfully, hoping that the disaster had been averted. That maybe Teresa wouldn’t be needed after all.
